# Fix a domain that won’t connect

> Find your domain’s label or message and follow its fix, to get your website showing on a domain you connected.

Each web address you connect, your [domain](/help/glossary#domain), gets a card under **Custom domains** in Settings › Domains. Its label says how it’s doing.

If you’re the owner or an admin, Ted can help: ask him to check your domain or try its setup again.

View-only teammates see each domain’s label, without its buttons.

## What the labels mean

> **“Action required”**
>
> You haven’t finished setup. Press **Complete setup** to see the lines to add at your domain company, called [DNS records](/help/glossary#dns-record). Add them, then press **I’ve added these records**.
>
> Later, the card lists the records instead: add them, then press **Check status**.

> **“Verifying”**
>
> Foundable is looking for your records. Changes to them can take as long as 72 hours to take effect.

> **“Setting up”**
>
> Foundable found your records and is getting your domain ready by itself.

> **“Ready”**
>
> Your domain goes live once you [publish your website](/build/publish).

> **“Live”**
>
> Your website shows on this domain. Press the domain’s name to open it.

> **“Pending”**
>
> Foundable is setting up an address under a domain you bought through it, which can take a few hours. If the card says it’s taking longer than usual, contact support.

> **“Checking”**
>
> Foundable is checking the connection, which takes a moment.

## Check, fix or disconnect

* **Check status** checks your records now. Too soon again, and Foundable asks you to wait.
* **Retry**, **Recover** and **Reconnect** show only when they can help, as below.
* To stop using a domain, open its **…** menu and choose **Disconnect**. Foundable asks first: using it here again means setting it up again.

## If something goes wrong

> **“Please enter a valid domain name (e.g., example.com)”**
>
> What you typed isn’t a domain name. Type only the domain, like `yourbusiness.com`.

> **“… is already connected to another site. Disconnect it there before connecting it here.”**
>
> Another foundable has this domain. Disconnect it there, then try again. If you own both, Foundable offers **Move and connect** instead: press it only if you want the domain here.

> **“DNS records not configured correctly”**
>
> One of your records is missing or wrong, and the message says which. Add or correct it to match the card. Changes take a while, so press **Check status** again later.

> **“Unable to verify”**
>
> Foundable still hasn’t found your records. Compare each record at your domain company with the one on the card. Then press **Check status**.

> **Your domain still shows your old website**
>
> Your old website’s A and AAAA records are probably still there. Remove them, and check yours against Foundable’s. Then give it time.

> **“Still setting up”**
>
> Setup is still running. Check again later.

> **“Stalled”**
>
> Your domain’s setup is taking longer than expected. Press **Retry**.

> **“Failed”**
>
> Your domain’s setup failed. Press **Retry**. If it fails again, [contact support](/help/get-help).

> **“Offline”**
>
> Your domain no longer points to your website. Press **Recover** to see the records, and fix them at your domain company.

> **“Removed”**
>
> This domain isn’t available for this website. Press **Reconnect** to start over.

> **“Connection issue”**
>
> The link to your website has a problem. The box under the domain says what. Follow it, press **Check status**, or press **Contact support** in the box.

> **A message about Cloudflare, like “Cloudflare has blocked the hostname for this domain.”**
>
> This is about Foundable’s own Cloudflare connection, not an account of yours. Press **Contact support** in the box, or disconnect the domain here if you moved it elsewhere.

> **“Status unavailable”**
>
> Foundable couldn’t check your domain’s connection just now. Press **Check status** later.
