# Glossary

> The words Foundable uses, in plain English: foundable, Ted, credits, Home, Build, Run, Tools, Payments, domains and more.

Foundable has a few words of its own. Here’s what each one means, with a link to learn more.

[A](#a) · [B](#b) · [C](#c) · [D](#d) · [E](#e) · [F](#f) · [G](#g) · [H](#h) · [I](#i) · [L](#l) · [M](#m) · [N](#n) · [O](#o) · [P](#p) · [R](#r) · [S](#s) · [T](#t) · [V](#v) · [W](#w)

## A

### Account menu

The round button with your initial at the top right of Foundable. It shows your available credits and holds **Settings**, **Language**, **Appearance**, the **Tutorial hub**, **Docs**, **Text Ted**, **Contact support**, **Report a bug** and **Log out**. On a phone, they’re under **More**. See [Find your way around](/get-started/find-your-way-around).

### Admin

A role in your foundable. An admin “Approves Ted’s posts and emails, connects tools and invites people”. Admins can invite members and view-only teammates; only the [owner](#owner) can add admins. See [Invite your team](/account/team).

### Approve

The button that lets something Ted prepared go ahead: an email goes out, a post goes out, or a change goes live on your website. Only the owner or an admin can approve. See [Approve Ted’s work](/ted/approvals).

### Ask first

A [Run](#run) mode: “Ted waits for your approval before anything goes public”. Run pauses on each email, post or website change until you decide. Compare [Runs on its own](#runs-on-its-own). See [Ask first or Runs on its own](/run/ask-first-or-on-its-own).

### Auto-renew

The switch that renews a [domain](#domain) you bought through Foundable every year, paid from your credits. It’s on until you turn it off in **Your domains**. See [Manage your domains](/domains/manage-domains).

## B

### Build

The tab between Home and Run where your [websites](#website) live. Ted makes and changes them there, you preview them, and you publish when you’re ready. Its [Tools](#tools) hold Payments and more. See [Build your website](/build/overview).

## C

### Chat

Your conversation with [Ted](#ted). Type in the “Message Ted…” box. Your chats are saved under **Chat history**, and **New chat** starts another. See [Chat with Ted](/ted/chat).

### Checkout

Stripe’s payment page. You pay for a Foundable [plan](#plan) there, and your customers pay there for what you sell. Foundable’s plans are sold through Link, Stripe’s merchant of record. See [Plans and credits](/account/plans-and-credits).

### Credit

What pays for Ted’s work. Building your website, Run, drafting replies, buying and renewing domains, and your website’s AI all use credits. Each of Ted’s replies shows its “Credits used”, and a [free fix](#free-fix) reads “Free”. Credits come from your plan, free credits each day, welcome credits and friends you invite. Everyone in a foundable spends the [owner’s](#owner) credits. See [Plans and credits](/account/plans-and-credits).

## D

### Daily Updates

A switch in **Settings**, under **Notifications**: “A morning email … from Ted with what happened and the one thing to do next.” Turn it on or off there. See [Notifications and emails](/account/notifications).

### Database

Your website’s own place to keep its data, like who signed up. Build sets it up for you. Open it in [Tools](#tools), under **Database**. See [Database](/build/database).

### Decline

The button that says no to something Ted prepared. A declined email isn’t sent. A declined post is set aside, and **Bring back to drafts** returns it. For a change to your website, the button is **Deny**. See [Approve Ted’s work](/ted/approvals).

### Direction

In your [free run](#free-run), a card with a place Ted could go next, like a spreadsheet, a deck or a new page for your website. Press **Explore this** or **Not now**. See [Your free first run](/run/first-run).

### Domain

A web address for your website, like yourbusiness.com. You can buy one through Foundable, which holds it in trust for your foundable, or connect one you already own. Using your own domain needs a paid plan. See [Use your own domain](/domains/overview).

### Draft

Something Ted prepared that waits for an OK from the owner or an admin: an email, a post, a reply, a newsletter or a change in a connected app. See [Approve Ted’s work](/ted/approvals).

## E

### Earn credits

The **Settings** section where you invite friends with your own link. When a friend joins with it, you earn [credits](#credit), and “earned credits never expire”. See [Earn credits](/account/earn-credits).

### Edit text

A [preview](#preview) tool for typing new words right on your website. Press **Send**, and Foundable saves the change as a new version. See [Preview and change your website](/build/preview-and-edit).

### Email address

Every named foundable gets its own email address, ending in foundable.app. Mail sent to it lands in your [Inbox](#inbox). With a paid plan, you can use your own domain for it instead. See [Your email address](/inbox/email-address).

## F

### Foundable

Your business in Foundable, with its own websites, email address, team and everything Ted makes for it. In these docs it’s written in lowercase: a foundable. A new one reads “New foundable” until it has a name. Foundable, with a capital F, is the name of the product. See [Your foundables](/account/foundables).

### Foundable AI

The AI your website uses when it needs one, with no key of its own. It’s paid from your credits and shows as “Website AI” in your usage. In [Tools](#tools), **AI** shows what it answered and spent, with a daily limit. See [Your website’s AI](/build/website-ai).

### Foundable badge

The small “Made with Foundable” pill at the bottom right of every page of your live website. To hide it, turn on **Hide Foundable badge** in **Published site actions**. Hiding it needs a paid plan. See [Publish your website](/build/publish).

### Free fix

A fix you start with **Try to fix**, **Fix error** or one of Security’s fixes can be free. Its receipt reads “Free” instead of the credits used. See [Plans and credits](/account/plans-and-credits).

### Free run

Your first run, which Foundable pays for. It starts when your first website’s build starts. Ted looks at your competitors, drafts a first outreach email for your OK, and asks you where to go next. It can’t be paused or stopped. See [Your free first run](/run/first-run).

### From Ted

Where everything Ted makes for you lands: the bell at the top of every page, and the From Ted card on Home. Drafts that wait for you are under [Needs your OK](#needs-your-ok). See [Home](/get-started/home).

## G

### Git connection

A GitHub account or organization connected to your foundable in **Settings**, under **Git**. Through it, a website’s code syncs to a private repository you own. A Git connection isn’t an [integration](#integration). See [GitHub](/build/github).

### GitHub

Where developers keep code. In [Tools](#tools), **GitHub** keeps your website’s code in a private repository you own, and changes sync both ways. See [GitHub](/build/github).

## H

### Home

The first tab at the top. It shows what Ted is doing and has made, your next steps, and your website’s visitors and insights. See [Home](/get-started/home).

## I

### Inbox

Your foundable’s email and social messages in one place, with the drafts that wait for approval. See [Your Inbox](/inbox/overview).

### Integration

An app you connect to your foundable, like Gmail, Google Calendar or Slack, in **Settings**, under **Integrations**. Ted can read it and, with your OK, make changes there. Only the owner or an admin can connect one. See [Connect your apps](/account/integrations).

### Invite link

A link that lets anyone who opens it join your foundable with the role you pick. It works for 7 days, and each role has one link. An invitation by email works only for the address it was sent to. See [Invite your team](/account/team).

## L

### Library

Everything Ted made for your business, like posts and files, ready to review and post. It opens inside [Run](#run). See [Posts and the Library](/run/posts-and-library).

## M

### Member

A role in your foundable. A member “Talks to Ted and works on the website with him”. See [Invite your team](/account/team).

### Messenger

The chat where the Foundable team answers you. [Support](#support) opens it, and your bug reports are under **Tickets** there. See [Get help](/help/get-help).

## N

### Needs your OK

The list of drafts waiting for you to approve or decline, in From Ted and the Inbox. Teammates who can’t decide drafts see “Waiting for approval” instead. See [Approve Ted’s work](/ted/approvals).

### Next steps

Home’s checklist of what to do next for your business, under “Your next steps”. See [Home](/get-started/home).

## O

### Owner

The person a foundable belongs to. The owner can do “Everything, plus starting or stopping Run, the plan and billing”. Every credit spent in the foundable is the owner’s. See [Invite your team](/account/team).

## P

### Payments

Selling on your website with Stripe. It lives in Build’s [Tools](#tools): set it up once, then Ted adds what you sell, and you see your sales there. See [Get paid with Payments](/payments/overview).

### Plan

Your Foundable plan: **Free**, or a paid plan, **Standard**, **Pro** or **Max**, billed monthly or yearly. Every paid plan includes every paid feature, like Ted running on his own, your own domain and a team. See [Plans and credits](/account/plans-and-credits).

### Preview

Your website as it will look, before visitors see it. Open a website in [Build](#build) to see it on a computer, tablet or phone. See [Preview and change your website](/build/preview-and-edit).

### Publish

Putting your website online at its own address. After that, **Update** sends newer changes live. Publishing needs no paid plan. See [Publish your website](/build/publish).

## R

### Report a bug

The form in the account menu for telling the Foundable team something is broken. On one of Ted’s replies, the same form is called **Report a problem**. See [Get help](/help/get-help#report-a-bug).

### Revert

Going back to an earlier version of your website. Foundable saves a copy of that version as the newest one, and every version stays. See [Version history](/build/version-history).

### Run

The tab where Ted runs your business on his own, in the background, pass after pass. You can always see what he’s doing and thinking, and the decisions that need you wait there. See [Run: Ted runs your business](/run/overview).

### Run pass

One round of Ted’s work while [Run](#run) is on. Ted works pass after pass until the run ends. See [Run: Ted runs your business](/run/overview).

### Runs on its own

A [Run](#run) mode where Ted sends emails and publishes posts by himself, where you allow it. The rest waits for your review, and a change to your live website still waits for your **Approve**. It needs a paid plan. Compare [Ask first](#ask-first). See [Ask first or Runs on its own](/run/ask-first-or-on-its-own).

## S

### Scheduled task

A task Ted does at set times, like every weekday morning, or when something happens, like a paid sale or an email arriving. Find them in **Schedule**. See [Scheduled tasks](/schedule/overview).

### Secret

A private value, like a key from another service, that your website’s server code reads by name. Add secrets in [Tools](#tools), under **Security**. “Saved values are never shown again.” See [Security and secrets](/build/security).

### Select

A [preview](#preview) tool: click a part of your website, like a heading or a button, to ask Ted about that part. See [Preview and change your website](/build/preview-and-edit).

### Settings

Where you change your foundable, your plan and your account. Open the account menu, then **Settings**. See [Settings](/account/settings).

### Stripe

The payment company behind [Payments](#payments) and behind Foundable’s own [checkout](#checkout). Your sales go to your own Stripe account. See [Get paid with Payments](/payments/overview).

### Support

The Foundable team’s chat, called [Messenger](#messenger). Press **Support** at the top right, or **Contact support** in the account menu. See [Get help](/help/get-help).

### Swap photo

A [preview](#preview) tool: click a photo on your website, then upload a new one, or describe it and let Ted make it. See [Preview and change your website](/build/preview-and-edit).

## T

### Ted

Your AI employee. He runs your business for you and does the work himself: he builds your website, drafts your emails, and works on his own in [Run](#run). Talk to him in the chat or by text. In **Team**, he’s listed as “Employee”. See [Meet Ted](/ted/meet-ted).

### Test mode

A way to try a purchase on your website with Stripe’s test card before you sell for real. No money moves. See [Test a purchase](/payments/test-mode).

### Text Ted

Texting Ted from your phone, by SMS or iMessage. Link your phone once from **Text Ted** in the account menu, then text him whenever you like. See [Text Ted from your phone](/ted/text-ted).

### Tools

The panel in [Build](#build) with what runs behind your website: **Payments**, **Database**, **Security**, **GitHub**, **AI** and **Emails**. A website’s logs open from an error’s **Show logs**. See [Tools](/build/tools).

### Tutorial hub

Short tours of each part of Foundable that you can replay. Open the account menu, then **Tutorial hub**. See [Get help](/help/get-help#learn-on-your-own).

## V

### Version history

Every saved version of your website, newest first. Open it with the clock at the top of the preview to look at any version or go back to it. See [Version history](/build/version-history).

### View only

A role that “Sees what Ted is doing and what he made, and changes nothing”. A view-only teammate can read chats with Ted but can’t ask him for work. See [Invite your team](/account/team).

## W

### Waitlist

The line new accounts may wait in before Foundable lets them in. “We’ll let you know the moment it’s your turn.” See [Create your account](/get-started/create-an-account).

### Website

What [Build](#build) makes for your business. A foundable can have several websites, and one of them is live at a time. See [Build your website](/build/overview).

### Website change

A change to your live website that Ted suggests while Run is on. It waits on a card for you to **Approve** or **Deny**. Once it’s live, you can still press **Undo**. See [Decisions and website changes](/run/decisions).
