# Disconnect payments

> Disconnect your Stripe account from your foundable to stop taking payments on your websites.

When you disconnect, your [foundable](/help/glossary#foundable) stops taking payments with its Stripe account. The account and its sales history stay yours at Stripe.

## Before you start

* **Only the owner can do this.**
* **It’s final.** You can’t link the same Stripe account to this foundable again.
* **Your customers’ subscriptions end at once, and their billing stops.** Disconnecting doesn’t refund past sales.

**1. Open the menu**

In **Build**, press **Tools**, then **Payments**. At the top, press **…** (**More options**).

**2. Choose Disconnect payments**

It’s under Danger zone. A window says what happens.

**3. Confirm**

Type **DISCONNECT** in the box, then press **Disconnect**.

## Check that it worked

A note confirms it. It says your Stripe account is still yours at dashboard.stripe.com. Then Payments says this account can no longer take payments.

## If something goes wrong

> **“Only the owner can disconnect payments.”**
>
> Your role can’t do this. Ask the owner.

> **“Payments are disconnected”**
>
> This account can no longer take payments: the owner or Stripe ended it. To sell again, the owner or an admin presses **Start accepting payments**. Stripe makes a new account in its place.

## FAQ

> **Where are my old sales after I start again?**
>
> In your old Stripe account, at dashboard.stripe.com. Payments shows only the new account’s sales. See [Get paid with Payments](/payments/overview).

> **What happens to Payments if I delete my foundable?**
>
> Its shop closes as if you disconnected, so your customers’ subscriptions end. Its Payments records go with it, and your Stripe account stays yours. See [Switch, start or delete a foundable](/account/foundables).
