# Use your own payment provider

> Take payments on your website through your own account at a payment provider, where Stripe doesn’t take businesses in your country.

Where Stripe doesn’t take businesses in your country, Payments can’t sell for you. Your website can still take payments, through your own account at a payment provider that works there.

Ted sets this up for you. You agree on the provider with him, then add its key.

## Before you start

* **Only the owner or an admin can add the provider’s key.**
* **You need an account at the provider.** It can be one you already have. No account yet? Ted suggests a provider.

**1. Open Payments**

In **Build**, press **Tools**, then **Payments**. It says payments aren’t available in your country, with an **Ask Ted** button.

**2. Press Ask Ted**

Ted’s message box fills with a request to set up payments through your own provider. Add your provider’s name if you have one, then press **Send**. No button? Ask Ted in the chat in your own words.

**3. Agree on the provider**

Ted names a provider that works in your country, and says why. If you named one, he uses it.

**4. Add its secret key on Ted’s card**

Ted shows a card that asks for the key. Copy the secret key from your account at the provider, paste it in, and press **Save**. Never paste a key in the chat.

**5. Publish the change**

Ted has Build add the provider’s checkout to your website. Look it over in the preview, then [publish your website](https://docs.foundable.com/build/publish.md).

## Check that it worked

Ted’s card shows that it saved your key, and [Secrets](https://docs.foundable.com/build/secrets.md) lists it by name. Customers pay on your live website, and the money goes to your account at the provider.

## If something goes wrong

> **“Stripe secret and restricted keys can’t be saved: take payments with Foundable’s Payments, in Tools.”**
>
> Stripe takes businesses in your country, so your website takes payments through Payments instead. See [Get paid with Payments](https://docs.foundable.com/payments/overview.md).

## FAQ

> **Can I connect my existing Stripe account to Payments?**
>
> No. Payments makes a new Stripe account for you. Where Payments can’t sell for you, your own Stripe account can be your provider, as on this page.

> **What if my business is registered in a country Payments lists?**
>
> Then use Payments. Choose that country under **Country**, and press **Start accepting payments**. See [Get paid with Payments](https://docs.foundable.com/payments/overview.md).
