# Steer or stop Ted while he works

> Add to your request, change course or stop Ted while he works, to get what you want without waiting for him to finish.

Ted keeps reading the chat while he works. Send more as it comes to mind, change what’s waiting, or stop him at once.

**1. Send another message**

Type it and send it as usual. It waits at the end of the chat, and Ted reads it at his next step. He keeps the work he’s done.

**2. Change it while it waits**

Press the pencil (**Edit message**) on a waiting message to change it, or press **Remove**.

**3. Have Ted take it now**

Press **Interrupt and run all pending messages**. Ted stops his current step and takes your waiting messages.

**4. Or stop him**

Press **Stop response**. It also stops a website build this chat started. While only a build is running, the button is **Stop build**. On a computer, pressing Esc twice does the same.

**5. Send what’s waiting**

After you stop Ted, waiting messages stay put. Send a new message to take them along, or press **Resume sending queued messages**.

A few requests, like a fix you send from Build, wait their turn instead, marked “Runs after the current task”.

## Check that it worked

A reply you stopped ends with “Stopped”. A message Ted has taken shows two check marks (“Read by Ted”).

## If something goes wrong

> **“This response ended early. You can ask Ted to continue.”**
>
> Ted stopped before he finished. Press **Continue** under his reply, and he picks up where he left off.

> **“Ted reached this turn’s step limit. Send a follow-up to continue.”**
>
> He took as many steps as one reply allows. Press **Continue**, or send a follow-up, like “Keep going.” Do the same when he says “this turn reached its credit limit.”

> **“Ted stopped here: you’re out of credits.”**
>
> Your credits ran out partway through. Get more credits, then press **Continue** once the chat says “You have credits again, so Ted can pick up where he left off.” See [When you run out of credits](/account/out-of-credits).

> **“Something stopped me picking up where I left off. Just hit Continue and I’ll carry on.”**
>
> Ted’s reply stopped partway, and he says so in his own words. Press **Continue** under it, and he carries on.

## FAQ

> **Does stopping Ted undo his work?**
>
> No. What he finished stays. A website build he was in the middle of stops, and your website stays at its last saved version. To take a change back, see [Undo a change or ask again](/ted/undo-a-change).

> **Why don’t I see Continue?**
>
> **Continue** shows only under the newest reply, once Ted is free and no message is waiting to send. If you’re out of credits, it comes back once you have credits again.
