# Find and manage your chats

> Start a new chat, find an old one, and rename or delete chats to keep each topic in its own conversation with Ted.

Each chat is one conversation with Ted. Start a new chat for each topic, and find the old ones in **Chat history**.

**1. Start a new chat**

Press **New chat**, the page with a pen at the top right of the chat. It’s called “New chat” until Ted names it.

**2. Open your chats**

Press **Chat history**, the clock at the top left of the chat. The list shows your chats by day, newest first.

**3. Find a chat**

Type in **Search chats**, at the top of the list, to find a chat by its title. To look for your words inside messages, press “Search everything for…”.

**4. Rename it**

Press the chat’s title at the top, type a new name and press Enter. Or choose **…** › **Rename** in the list.

**5. Delete it**

Choose **…** › **Delete**. Foundable asks “Delete chat?”. Press **Delete**.

In the list, a blue dot marks a reply you haven’t read. A “Text” tag marks the chat your [texts to Ted](/ted/text-ted) go to. **View all history**, at the bottom of the list, opens all your saved chats, with a search of its own.

## Hide or resize the chat

On a computer, **Hide chat**, at the top left, folds the chat into a thin strip, and **Show chat** opens it again. While it’s folded, a dot on **Show chat** says “Ted is working” or “Ted replied”. To make the chat wider or narrower, drag its edge.

Run and its Library keep the chat closed, so open another page, like Home, to chat.

## Check that it worked

A new chat opens empty and asks “What should I work on?”. A chat you delete leaves your history.

## If something goes wrong

> **“A build is running”**
>
> A website build from this chat is still running, so you can’t delete the chat yet. Wait for it to finish, then delete it.

> **“Run is using it”**
>
> Run is using this chat, so you can’t delete it. [Stop Run](/run/overview#pause-resume-or-stop) first.

> **“Search covers loaded conversations.”**
>
> **Search chats** looks only at the chats loaded so far. Press “Search everything for…” to look inside every message, or open **View all history** to load older chats.

## FAQ

> **Does deleting a chat delete what Ted made in it?**
>
> “Websites and drafts it made stay.” The conversation leaves your history, and Ted no longer reads it. Documents and files from it no longer show under **From Ted**, so download any you want to keep first. See [Open the files Ted makes](/ted/files).

> **What if I delete the chat my texts go to?**
>
> Your next text to Ted starts a new chat. See [Text Ted from your phone](/ted/text-ted).
